Fishing.
Fishing in Deep South Texas is a hotspot of fish friendly salt and fresh water. Deep Sea and Laguna Madre Bay offer private guided and party boat opportunities. Surf, pier, bay flats, and jetties offer bank and wade salt-water fishing. The bay has great Speckled Trout, Flounder, and Red Fishing even with fly rod tackle. Fresh water canals, lakes, resacas, and the Rio Grande River offer catfish, bass, and croppy. Tackle, bait, and guides are plentiful from Brownsville, South Padre Island – SPI, and Port Isabel - PI. Rental boats are available also.
Rio RV Park offers a 24/7 fish cleaning facility with running water, basin, and lighted for cleaning after dark. The work area has a double sink and cutting area. An electric filet knife works well on the 120V AC GFI plug in. We are 20 minutes to Boca Chica Beach and PI, 25 minutes to SPI, minutes to canals, resacas, ship channel, and the Rio Grande River. The park owner is knowledgeable of many out of the way hotspots.
Fishing hotspots can include Lake Guerrero, Mexico fishing just over two hours from Brownsville. It is south of San Fernando and north of Cd Victoria, Mexico. More information below on Mexico Fishing.

Fishing by Month ...........................................by Capt. Skipper Ray, www.islandoutfittersspi.com

January, redfish are the most prevalent with trout bringing up second.

March, the reds start to slow down and the trout start to take the lead, along with flounder.

May, the tarpon start to show up along with the trout and reds getting even more prolific, and as well the flounder. The reds are trailing on a regular basis, feeding on small crabs and shrimp in six to eight inches of water.

July, the end of the month the reds are back in full swing again and starting to school up as the water heats us and the trout hunt for the cooler waters of the Gulf.

September, is a great month for mot all the species including tarpon. As they start their trek back south for the winter.

October, is probably the best month for Tarpon, as well as redfish, mango snapper, snoo, flounder, and a few other species we will catch arount the jetties at this time of the year.

November, is a Fishing Guides favorite month. It's very comfortable weather wise and some fine fishing. The water starts to cool down and everything seems to be happier.

December, can be one of the best months as well, except for the occasional cool front that come through. It can make the fishing Fabulous or shut it down.

We can provide you with lists including contact information for Bait and Tackle stores, guides, and boats. Party boats for bay and deep sea run daily weather permitting.
